Evaluation of Multiresolution Digital Elevation Model (DEM) from Real-Time Kinematic GPS and Ancillary Data for Reservoir Storage Capacity Estimation

چکیده
This study presents the estimation of reservoir storage capacity using multiresolution Real-Time Kinematic Global Positioning System (RTK-GPS) DEM, in comparison with ASTER and contour-derived DEM. Through RMSE comparisons of the elevation point uncertainty and error analysis, the results shows that the RTK-GPS DEM gave the best results for the reservoir capacity-area power curve estimation, defined by a convex slope with an exponential deterministic relationship given by V “ 0.09ˆ A1.435. The results further show the existence an empirical relationship between the reservoir volume certainty and the GPS point density di as Ve “ c ˆ d ρ i . This relationship is dependent on the reservoir terrain, slope and surface area. Validation of the results with in situ data showed the differences between the simulated and observed storage volumes was less than +10%, and using the Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient of efficiency on the storage volumes, an average efficiency of +0.7 on the monthly observed and simulated reservoir storage volume was observed.

The spatial quality of the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) has a great effect on the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) semi-distributed model. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of spatial accuracy of three DEMs with spatial resolutions of 10, 50 and 200 m on the results of daily discharge simulation in the Arazkuseh subwatershed located in Gorganroud watershed, Golestan pro...
متن کاملDigital Elevation Accuracy and Grid Cell Size: Effects on Estimated Terrain Attributes
Terrain attributes are commonly used to explain the spatial variability of agronomic, pedologic, and hydrologic variables. The terrain attributes studied here (elevation, slope, aspect, and curvature) are estimated readily from digital elevation models (DEMs), but questions remain about how the accuracy and sample spacing of the elevation data affect the estimated attributes. The main objective...
متن کاملAssessing the Effects of DEM Uncertainty on Erosion Rate Estimation in an Agricultural Field
The slope length and steepness (LS) factor is one of the factors in the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) needed to estimate average annual erosion rate. The LS factor is often derived from digital elevation models (DEM). DEM errors and uncertainty could affect LS factor estimation and consequently erosion rate estimation. However, DEM uncertainties are not always accounted for, and ...

A Digital Elevation Model (DEM) represents the height of a patch of terrain. Accuracies of DEMs vary depending upon the requirements of different applications. DEMs have been applied to a wide range of civil engineering and military planning tasks. Besides the conventional methods of creating DEMs, such as photogrammetry and manual field survey, airborne laser scanning and radar interferometry ...
